Does Vibrant algae remover work?

Vibrant is sold as a liquid algae remover, and liquid removers generally work best on existing surface algae when used exactly as the label directs. Results depend on the type of algae and your tank, and we have not tested it ourselves. It will not stop algae returning if nutrients and light remain high.

Is Vibrant algae remover safe for fish, plants and invertebrates?

We cannot confirm that for your setup, so check the current product label and, if in doubt, contact the manufacturer or retailer before dosing. Shrimp, snails, corals and delicate plants are the livestock most worth checking. Never exceed the labelled dose.

How often can I use a liquid algae remover?

Follow the frequency printed on the product label and do not top up early because algae looks unchanged. Repeated dosing can stress livestock and add to the waste load as algae dies. If algae persists after a labelled course, review feeding, lighting and water changes instead.

Why does algae come back after I treat it?

Algae returns because the nutrients and light that fed it are still present. Common causes are overfeeding, long lighting periods, infrequent water changes and dirty filtration. Fix those and the treatment you use matters far less.

Will a filter sock remove algae from my tank?

A filter sock removes loose algae strands, fragments and debris larger than its micron rating. It does not remove algae growing on glass, rock or plants, and it does not remove dissolved nutrients. Use it alongside scraping, water changes or a liquid remover rather than instead of them.

What micron filter sock should I use in an aquarium?

For catching visible debris and loose algae, 100 micron nylon mesh is a common general choice, and a 50 micron sock catches finer particles but clogs sooner. Aqua Filter Socks stocks 50 and 100 micron nylon mesh in standard sizes, and makes 1 to 800 micron ratings to order. Very fine ratings need rinsing more often.
