Filter socks for coolant, parts washers and finishing

Take swarf and fines out of coolant sumps, wash tanks and vibratory finishing water before they reach the pump.

Where they are used

  • Coolant return lines and sumps on saws, grinders, lathes and machining centres.
  • Aqueous parts washers, to keep the wash liquor clean and the jets clear.
  • Vibratory and mass finishing, straining media fines and sludge out of the process water.
  • Stone, glass and waterjet cutting, where the recirculated water carries abrasive.

What to choose

Nylon mesh, 100 to 400 micron, for swarf and chips: it flows fast, and you knock it out, rinse it and refit it. Polyester felt, 100 to 200 micron, where fines are the problem: felt holds far more dirt, and you change it as a consumable. Many shops run both, mesh first and felt after.

Most water-mix coolants run mildly alkaline. Nylon mesh tolerates alkali well. For strongly alkaline wash chemistry, ask for polypropylene felt, which is made to order.
